Case study ยท Product site

walkamp.com

The home of WalkAmp, our walk-up song app for youth baseball and softball. A landing page that has to sell an app to a busy coach on a phone, plus the guides and song lists that help them use it, all hand-coded with no build step.

The job

WalkAmp is a mobile app. Its website has one main purpose: get a coach or a parent from a link to the right app store, on the right device, with enough confidence to download. Everything else on the site exists to support that, or to help people who already have the app get more out of it.

The audience is almost entirely on phones, often at a ballpark on a weak signal. So the site had to be small, fast, and readable with one thumb.

What we built

A landing page that sells the app

  • A short promo video, feature walkthrough, and pricing laid out for skimming
  • App Store and Google Play badges, plus a QR code that sends each phone to its own store
  • An FAQ that answers the questions we actually get by email
  • Structured data and social previews on every page, so shared links look right in a group text

Guides and song lists with clean URLs

Nine how-to guides cover setup, roster import, clip timing, announcer voices, and game day. A separate section holds walk-up song lists by sport and situation. Each lives at a short, readable URL, and every page shares one stylesheet so adding a new guide is a matter of copying a file and writing.

Small utility pages

Promo code redemption, a download page that picks the right store, and an account deletion request page that the app stores require. Boring pages, but they have to exist and they have to work.

How it is built

Every page is a hand-written HTML file with a shared stylesheet and a few lines of JavaScript where a page genuinely needs it. There is no framework, no bundler, and no build step. Deploying is uploading a folder. That is deliberate: a marketing site should be something its owner can still edit five years from now with nothing but a text editor.

Hosting is on Cloudflare Pages, which serves the files from locations close to the visitor and costs nothing at this scale. Analytics are privacy-respecting and honor the browser's Do Not Track setting.

What carried over to client work

Almost everything. The landing page pattern, the store-badge and QR setup, and the no-build-step approach are the same things we bring to a client's product site. If you have an app that needs a home on the web, this is the template we start from.
